The module was fabricated at Gruppo Antonini's shipyard (La Spezia, Italy) and subsequently installed offshore on the Sabratha platform, 42 metres above sea level. Following several months of hook-up and commissioning activities, the facility entered commercial production on 28 June 2026, contributing to the increase in gas production from the offshore field.
The project represents a significant enhancement of the Sabratha field's production capacity. The compression system, equipped with compressors supplied by Siemens Energy, provides a total processing capacity of approximately 400 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD), ensuring production continuity despite the progressive decline in reservoir pressure.
The additional gas production will contribute to meeting Libya's power generation demand while strengthening exports to Italy through the Greenstream gas pipeline, a strategic energy infrastructure linking North Africa and Europe.
To achieve this milestone, Gruppo Antonini leveraged its extensive expertise, engaging more than 200 engineers, technicians and operational personnel in the execution of a multidisciplinary project requiring integrated capabilities in engineering, fabrication, offshore logistics, and commissioning.
To support the project's offshore activities, Gruppo Antonini also managed the chartering of a comprehensive marine spread, including a crew boat, a Platform Supply Vessel (PSV), and the accommodation vessel (FLOTEL) EDDA FORTIS. With accommodation capacity for approximately 800 personnel, EDDA FORTIS is currently the largest accommodation vessel available in Europe and is equipped with an innovative walk-to-work gangway system, enabling the safe transfer of personnel between the vessel and offshore platforms. Thanks to its ability to operate even under severe metocean conditions, the vessel ensured high safety standards and operational continuity throughout the hook-up and commissioning phases.
Weighing more than 1,700 tonnes, the Sabratha Compression Module represents one of the key elements in the management of the field, contributing to the optimization of hydrocarbon recovery and the extension of the field's productive life.
The Sabratha Compression Module ranks among Gruppo Antonini's most significant achievements over the past decade, further strengthening the Group's position in the international energy construction sector.
